Arizona Immigration Bill Hullabaloo!   Leave a comment

Ever since this bold bill came through the Arizona courts, it has caused an explosion of criticism both in the public and in government.  Old news, I know, but still something worth discussing since there is a lot of information and misinformation out there regarding it.

First, the AZ Bill is designed to mimic a federal law already in place regarding illegal immigration.  Nothing that Gov. Jan Brewer and the AZ congress have done with this bill is any different than laws already set in place in congress.  The only real difference is that the AZ bill is the federal bill at state level.  If the federal government folks were doing their job in protecting our country, AZ would not have needed to pass their own bill.

I am posting the AZ Illegal Immigration bill here.  I only ask that you PLEASE READ IT before making accusations of what it says!  There are 20 pages of said bill.  The FIRST PARAGRAPH of the AZ law states that this law is intended to mirror the FEDERAL LAW already passed through congress.

11 – 1051 –

A.     No OFFICIAL OR AGENCY OF THIS STATE OR A COUNTY, CITY, TOWN OR OTHER POLITICAL SUBDIVISION OF THIS STATE MAY LIMIT OR RESTRICT THE ENFORCEMENT OF FEDERAL IMMIGRATION LAWS TO LES THAN THE FULL EXTENT PERMITTED BY FEDERAL LAW.

One of the big accusations of said law seems to be that it’s racist and requires police officers to profile Latino’s.  Even Obama has gone as far as to paint a picture of a Nazi-Germany-esque existence where taking your child to get ice cream would be a crime.  I’m not sure how this, um, ‘logic’, applies to this law, but clearly in the second paragraph (paragraph B), the law states that this is NOT the case:

B.     FOR ANY LAWFUL STOP, DETENTION OR ARREST MADE BY A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIAL OR A LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY OF THIS STATE OR A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIAL OF A LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY OF A COUNTY, CITY, TOWN, OR OTHER POLITICAL SUBDIVISION OF THIS STATE IN THE ENFORCEMENT OF ANY OTHER LAW OR ORDINANCE OF A COUNTY, CITY, OR TOWN OR THIS STATE WHERE REASONABLE SUSPICION EXISTS THAT THE PERSON IS AN ALIEN AND IS UNLAWFULLY PRESENT IN THE UNITED STATES, A REASONABLE ATTEMPT SHALL BE MADE, WHEN PRACTICABLE, TO DETERMINE THE IMMIGRATION STATUS OF THE PERSON, EXCEPT IF THE DETERMINATION MAY HINDER OR OBSTRUCT AN INVESTIGATION.  ANY PERSON WHO IS ARRESTED SHALL HAVE THE PERSON’S IMMIGRATION STATUS DETERMINED BEFORE THE PERSON IS RELEASED.  THE PERSON’S IMMIGRATION STATUS HSALL BE VERIFIED WITH THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT PURSUANT TO 8 UNITED STATES CODE SECTION 1373(c )  A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIAL OR AGENCY OF THIS STATE MAY NOT CONSIDER RACE, COLOR OR NATIONAL ORIGIN IN IMPLEMENTING THE REQUIREMENTS OF THIS SUBSECTION EXCEPT TO THE EXTEND PERMITTED BY THE UNITED STATES OR ARIZONA CONSTITUTION.

My guess is, unless that parent taking their child to the ice cream shop runs over a pedestrian on the way or robs the establishment, they are safe from harassment under this law.  I doubt that the AZ police have the time on their hands to ask every single person in the state for ‘their papers’.  They have much BIGGER problems than family ice cream runs!

To be honest, with as wonderfuly diverse and decent as public education tries to be, I had kind of assumed that checking immigration status of criminals had already been taking place in the country and I’m SHOCKED to think that this really has not been the case!!!  A majority of Americans (legal Americans, mind you) support the AZ bill according to even notoriously left leaning mainstream media sources such as MSNBC, CBS, and The Washington Post. Even this recent ABC News article confirms the fact even this far after the passing of the bill.  Other states are starting the process of enacting their own immigration bills due to public demand, such as TX, AR, ID, MD, MI, MO, NE, NV, NJ, NC, OH, OK, PA, RI, SC, TX, and UT!  That’s 18 states that have issues with illegal immigration big enough to introduce bills for it when the federal government has been otherwise silent.

As an Army Brat, I have lived in several different states–GA, OK, MD, VA, PA, CA and a few different countries–I recently just moved back to my ‘home state’ (I guess you could call it) from a 6 year stint in CA.  I have to say, it’s a totally different world out there.  Americans who don’t live in border states, especially THAT close to the border, really don’t have any idea what it’s like!  It’s a totally different world, mas-obsessive-liberalism aside.  It was the first place I have ever experienced racism against Americans in my own country!  In Europe we had that a little bit, but we were kids then and maybe it was cool at the time, I don’t know.  But here?  In America?  The ‘Promised Land’ for overseas Army Brats when I was young?  I had to go to a doctor’s office one time and the lady at the desk rolled her eyes and got snarky with me because I didn’t speak Spanish.  I also had friends who were caucasian who were well below the poverty level that couldn’t get any help.  The people at the welfare office wouldn’t take them seriously because they were white, almost as though that exempts you from public help when you are struggling.  The schools in the area were suffering because there was no way to teach both the illegal children and the American children at the same time and have it be both financially and educationally sound.  So, both groups suffer.  And the crime rate was aweful, and I didn’t even live in the city!

But, AZ is substantially worse off!

It’s maddness and it needs to get under control!  The more illegals we allow in this country, the more crime, drugs and problems we are going to have.  These bills are NOT about racism as so many people have said.  I believe that the fact critics are SAYING that these laws are racist are making racist comments themselves by assuming that.  Just because a lawmaker who wants to protect their state from crime, drugs, kidnappings, murders, police killings and spending billions on people who do not belong here per their current illegal status, and she happens to be WHITE, does NOT make her a racist!  Just because someone opposes something Obama has said does NOT make them a racist.  If we keep throwing the race card around to guilt and bully the people, and worse, our GOVERNMENT, around, then what does that say about us as a country?  It’s wrong.  It’s sad.  There is real racism out there, I’ve seen it, but THIS is NOT it!  And the misinformation out there driven BY the racism claims just confuses everyone!  Especially when left-leaning media titles the bill as an anti-immigration bill.  No.  It is not against immigration.  It’s against ILLEGAL Immigration!!!!  We have laws for entrance into our country for a reason–to protect Americans and our soverignty.  To ignore that is to spit in our faces.  To ignore the millions and millions of people who support these bills and passing judgement on those who do is wrong.  I know plenty of Latino’s who support this bill, and they think that it’s about time!  My own mother is an immigrant–she came here from Europe LEGALLY and through all the LEGAL channels!  We are a nation of immigrants–but this nation was built on LEGAL immigration through controlled ports of entry!  We have let this go WAY too far!  We need to get this under control!

We have 18 states making the right moves to save our country!  I only pray that the rest come on board!  LET THE AMERICAN PEOPLE BE HEARD!
